Unit 4: Production
This Unit is specifically for the things that we do in Rebecca's lesson.
Majority of the times that we have been in this lesson we have been going through Artists and the things that a production crew tend to go through when they are backstage. Or what needs to be done for a concert to be successful.
We will be seeing and identifying the jobs behind the scenes.
A lot of the sessions that I tend to have with Rebecca I would also write on the other previous posts.

Things such as the Britney Jean documentary.

This was when we watched the Britney Spears Documentary and we saw what sort of planning it takes to be able to create a show (A concert) The documentary takes us behind the scenes on what goes when a showbiz event is being organised.

This was so that we can see that without the people who work in production we wouldn't be able to see our favourite musicians or actors perform live.

CLASH OF THE CONCERTS PROJECT

Unit 4 has been mostly about what we have been doing since December/January. We started by identifying potential artists that we would like to focus on after a lot of choosing and after coming up with a band (BTS) we switched it to another band which is Queen. This could be known as an inspired decision because during that time the film Bohemian Rhapsody which is Drama/Biographical film based on the band themselves as well the life of the flamboyant lead singer known as Freddie Mercury.

There were four groups in total and my group were the only group
that had chosen a singer/band that isn't currently popular or up to date with today's music industry.
After deciding which artist we will be focusing on each person in the class were soon assigned with making a poster of their respective artist from their group.
This was actually quite difficult for me because since Queen is an old band and although I'm familiar with their songs, I don't think I've seen much of their music videos.
My main inspiration for making the poster was the poster and promotional content of Queens latest Biographical film called Bohemian Rhapsody.

I honestly enjoyed making this poster although there were times where I had struggled to come up with inspiration. I decided to use the same background for each half of the slide but with one looking how it originally looked like when I had copied it and the other being rotated in the a different angle.

Once I came up with the background for the poster, I then added the basic information that you would normally see in a poster such as the venue, dates, times when the concert will start, website, etc. Although My poster met with most of the requirements, that was told to me, I've got to be honest that after a while I uploaded the picture and sent it to Becca and once I had the chance to see the poster properly, I wasn't really happy with how the way Queen looked on the poster.

Compared to the other designs and content that I have created before, I've got to say that it's not the best but I'm happy with the effort that I put in to it.

This is a concept of what I've created.

Here is the Actual one that I had cropped from the actual PowerPoint that I made.
After we all designed our posters, we were soon coming with concepts of how our stage would look like since our next project was to create a miniature stage. I've got to be honest a lot of ideas was mostly done by Chinzia because she didn't let anyone else contribute their ideas which is something that I had already mentioned in a previous unit.

But when it came to actually making the craft, Chinzia was reluctant to let me help her while the rest of the peers who were in my group (Mya, Tienna and Kaliyah) didn't even attempt to try to get their ideas across.

So the materials that we used was black board paper, a cardboard cube that we ended up cutting in half but diagonally.

11/03/19
In this lesson with Becca Me and Joe were named the technical directors of our group.
I actually elected myself for this role and Joey who's in my group agreed that we should both share the responsibility and role of technical director.

The reason why this is because while I was in secondary school and all sorts of places I did filming, acting and directing with friends whether it was for a project in media or for the work of a friend. There were moments where I would direct and I really enjoyed the role of being a director, script writer, etc.

I noticed that I was good at it also and tend to try and offer my ideas to my peers on how things can be done.
This is why I put my hand up when Becca asked who would like to be the technical director for each of their group.
The purpose of this was so that we could have a person in charge of the production side of the play. Another way of putting this is the work that goes unnoticed or the behind-the-scenes crew. These people make decisions on how the set would like, how the costume would like and all sorts of things.

I was put with the members of my group for the scene in container and we had to come up with a list of the props, set,
soundtrack and the colour of our lighting that we were going to use in the day of our performance so that our characters can be complete.
We did this so that Becca can take the lists that we've created so that she can look for the items that are needed and do what is necessary to make sure that the characters are up to high standard.
Since Becca is our production Arts teacher she could be able to retrieve all the items that are needed and make sure that our set is ready to use for the day.

01/04/2019

Our props had finally arrived but because I didn't have such a large role it wasn't even necessary for me to have props and Becca and the production Arts crew had forgotten to bring the props that I was supposed to use.
The purpose of us to have props was so that the audience can see what it was that we were doing and so that they can also see what it is that a refugee or an asylum seeker would bring with them when they are travelling to another with a limit of items that they are allowed to bring.

This also gives the audience an insight on what items could make someone attached to the following object.
This is important because the item that the refugee has may played a big part in the backstory of the respective character.
For e.g. A wife who lives in war-torn could flee from her country of origin to find refuge in much more safer country might only be limited to only bringing one or two items. One of those items could be a video cassette of her marriage and the other could be food so that she and a few of her other travellers could withstand the journey.
For a father it could be a picture of his whole family.
While the characters in the play such as Fatima brought only rice, milk and a ring which she had to sell so that she could pay for her journey.

The lighting is so that the audience and the performers can see where the container would be at and give an idea on how wide and long it is. Since the lighting shows a rectangle that is the size of a average-sized bedroom we were able to know where we were able to stand and know our surroundings and our boundaries.
More on what we've done in our play "Container" will be seen in our later Units based in Immigration which is Units 5,7 and 8.

I enjoyed doing the play container especially the sessions with our production arts teacher where I had the opportunity to play to my strengths because I'm someone that likes to be vocal and come up with ideas so that I can contribute ideas to my group.
In my group I came up with and wrote down the props, soundtrack and the lighting that would be appropriate for the play.

The Production Arts class were in charge of locating the items that we had come up with in our class, but were unable to retrieve most of the props that we had requested and the music/sounds weren't what we wanted or expected.
Despite these issues arising it didn't stop us from performing to the best of our abilities.
It would've been useful if we had the props so that we can have a better feel of our characters and another purpose that we needed our props which is what I mentioned previously, so that those watching us can see who our characters are.

Learning about the Demographic
We have learnt about demographics because it gives us an idea on the age of our intended audience in other words it's who is our target audience.
I went on the internet to search up more on Demographics because it can be used for many different contents and in more than one occassion.
According to google this is what Demographic means.
The way that is has been used in our class is by helping us know more about the term "Intended audience".
We have been learning that knowing the demographic of our audience on a certain artist is important when it comes to marketing and promoting. This is vital when it comes to getting your message across to the right group of people so that the sales of a live performance of a well known musician doesn't hinder.
E.g. when it comes to Chris Brown the intended audience of his concerts would be youths or teenagers while for an artist like Rod Stewart
